Books and Tea

I wish I could remember the process or how I found the books that I hold dear. Each book that I hold in my possession like gold, I could tell you, I never quite went out on a quest searching for any of them; what I could say, as I expanded my awareness each book came to me when I was ready to receive it's information.

In hindsight, I do remember this very clearly though, 15 years ago I began attending yoga classes at a gym every Saturday morning. At the time I really didn't know much at all about Yoga, I just knew that I was always up for a new experience, I enjoyed movement and I loved how different the experience was from what my gym routine offered me. Through each class, I began cultivating more strength, more discipline, more courage and a quest to know more...there was this opening that was happening...more so a shift.

It was one day after class I told the instructor I wanted to know more about yoga, I wanted to get better. I expected him to tell me about another class or refer me to a book about yoga asanas. He looked at me, and I would never forget his simplicity, the peace, the calm and freedom in his eyes. What he offered me was priceless. He didn't go into a whole conversation about anything. He said read the book " Journey of Awakening ". I left class encouraged, but a little puzzled, the title wasn't quite what I was expecting, but within that week I found the book at a book store near by the gym. Well, I can't tell you I got right to reading the book, I glanced through it for a year, reading pieces at a time, absorbing very little at a time, but not fully taking it in. Looking back, I wasn't ready. I was still sought of stuck on me wanting to know more about yoga, and then, this choice of a book, it just didn't match and the wording was...well, different, it reminded me of the intro philosophy
class I had in college and lets say I wasn't very fond of the philosophy class, my thoughts were "who thinks like this"! Haha.....cheers to growing up!

At this particular juncture in life, I was fairly young, fresh out of college, contemplating leaving home to become more independent and settle into a place of my own. The very next year, I settled into my first apartment, life began happening, and I began creating my own experiences and the book slowly began to find it's way back into my hands.  I began to see the world with new lens and this book became like an eye glass soft cloth helping me to see clearer, deeper and to start the process of  awakening.

This one book unfolded into many others and I am grateful for all the wisdom I received through them. Amongst my collection, these are a few books that have inspired me and these are my favorite teas ..find yourself at your local library or a book store with your favorite cup of tea and just read...

Here is a quick collage of my favorite books that always stay within reach.
